“Hare” addresses the energy of the Lord; “Krishna” and “Rama” are names of God. Śrīla Prabhupāda explained it as a plea: “O Lord, O energy of the Lord, please engage me in Your service.”

Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare

Before honouring prasādam
A song sung before eating.
Sarira avidya-jal, jadendriya tahe kal
jive phele vishaya-sagare
ta’ra madhye jihva ati-, lobhamay sudurmati,
ta’ke jeta kathina samsare
krishna bada dayamay, karibare jihva jay,

sei annamrita pao, radha-krishna-guna gao,
preme dako chaitanya-nitai
O brothers, this material body is a net of ignorance, and the senses are our deadly enemies, for they throw the soul into the ocean of material enjoyment. Among the senses the tongue is the most greedy and unruly; in this world the tongue is very hard to control.
O brothers, Lord Krishna is very merciful and has given us the remnants of His own food so that we can control the tongue. Now please accept this nectarean Krishna prasādam and sing the glories of Śrī Śrī Rādhā-Krishna; full of love, call out loudly: Caitanya! Nitāi!

Śikṣāṣṭakam
The eight prayers of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu.
1
Cheto-darpana-marjanam bhava-maha-davagni-nirvapanam
sreyah-kairava-chandrika-vitaranam vidya-vadhu-jivanam
anandambudhi-vardhanam prati-padam purnamritasvadanam
sarvatma-snapanam param vijayate sri-krishna-sankirtanam
Glory to śrī-krishna-saṅkīrtana, which cleans the heart of all the dust gathered over the years and puts out the fire of conditioned life, of repeated birth and death. This saṅkīrtana movement is the main blessing for all humanity, for it spreads the rays of the moon of blessing. It is the life of all transcendental knowledge. It expands the ocean of transcendental bliss and lets us fully taste the nectar we are always longing for.
2
Namnam akari bahudha nija-sarva-shaktis
tatrarpita niyamitah smarane na kalah
etadrisi tava kripa bhagavan mamapi
durdaivam idrisam ihajani nanuragah
O my Lord, Your holy name alone can bring every blessing to living beings, and so You have hundreds and millions of names, such as Krishna and Govinda. You have invested these holy names with all Your transcendental energies. O my Lord, out of kindness You let us approach You easily through Your holy names, but I am so unfortunate that I feel no attraction for them.
3
Trinad api sunichena
taror api sahishnuna
amanina manadena
kirtaniyah sada harih
One should chant the holy name of the Lord in a humble state of mind, thinking oneself lower than the straw in the street; one should be more tolerant than a tree, free from any sense of false prestige, and ready to offer all respect to others. In such a state of mind one can chant the holy name of the Lord constantly.
4
Na dhanam na janam na sundarim
kavitam va jagad-isha kamaye
mama janmani janmanisvare
bhavatad bhaktir ahaituki tvayi
O almighty Lord, I do not wish to gather wealth, nor do I desire beautiful women, nor do I want any number of followers. All I want is Your causeless devotional service, birth after birth.
5
Ayi nanda-tanuja kinkaram
patitam mam vishame bhavambudhau
kripaya tava pada-pankaja-
sthita-dhuli-sadrisham vicintaya
O son of Mahārāja Nanda [Krishna], I am Your eternal servant, and yet somehow I have fallen into the ocean of birth and death. Please lift me out of this ocean of death and place me as one of the atoms at Your lotus feet.
6
Nayanam galad-ashru-dharaya
vadanam gadgada-ruddhaya gira
pulakair nicitam vapuh kada
tava-nama-grahane bhavishyati
O my Lord, when will my eyes be adorned with tears of love flowing constantly as I chant Your holy name? When will my voice choke up, and when will the hairs of my body stand on end as I recite Your name?
7
Yugayitam nimeshena
chakshusha pravrishayitam
sunyayitam jagat sarvam
govinda-virahena me
O Govinda, feeling Your separation, I consider a moment to be like twelve years or more. Tears flow from my eyes like torrents of rain, and in Your absence the whole world seems empty to me.
8
Aslishya va pada-ratam pinashtu mam
adarshanan marma-hatam karotu va
yatha tatha va vidadhatu lampato
mat-prana-nathas tu sa eva napara
I know no one but Krishna as my Lord, and He will remain so even if He handles me roughly in His embrace or breaks my heart by not being present before me. He is completely free to do whatever He likes, for He is always my worshipful Lord, without any condition.
09
